Upcoming Plans

Sorry we have not posted very much lately, the reason being we have been having a lot of rainy weekends.

We thought this would be a good opportunity to set down some of the places we plan to visit sometime this year.

(Make sure you click on these images so you can view a larger version)

One place that is high on our list is Fitzgerald Marine Reserve just north of Half Moon Bay. The best time to visit is at a minus low tide. On checking the tide tables, the next minus low tide early in the morning on a Saturday or a Sunday will not be until May, but an even lower tide will be at the beginning of June.

Whale watching is also on our ‘must do’ list but that will be at the end of March/beginning of April when the mothers and calves pass by close to shore on their way back to Alaska from Baja.

Here are a few other places we will visit when the weather improves:

Angel Island. Lots of history and spectacular views from the island in the middle of San Francisco Bay.

Alexander Valley. Up in the Wine Country just north of Healdsburg.

Gold Country. Beautiful area with lots of colorful history, wine tasting and wonderful little towns to explore.

Elkhorn Slough. Between Monterey and Santa Cruz. Great hiking and biking trails.

Pinnacles. Wonderful hiking and some beautiful scenery. Don’t forget about the Condors soaring overhead.

Locke. On the Sacramento River this old town is hard to explain. Funky, historic and certainly unique.

Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge. Large area in the South Bay. Great hiking, biking, bird watching. It’s right in our backyard too.

Sacramento. Capital of Californina and a beautiful city to boot. Old Sac with the Railroad Museum is a must see.

Ano Nuveo. Now this is what California looked like when Sir Francis Drake hit our shores up north a few hundred years ago. This is wild California. The Elephant Seals are spectacular. Really an amazing place.

Mount Diablo. Beautiful views. You can see Mt. Shasta on a clear day.

Then of course there is San Francisco. We were planning to go there this weekend to do a staircase walk. Maybe next weekend will be a little drier.

We have many more ideas, far too many to list here, but the above will give you an idea of what we have in mind. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we get back on the road again.

If you haven’t been to Alcatraz, I would recommend it. I’ve lived here 25 years and finally went last month. I took the night cruise - it was a great tour!!

Thanks for the suggestion. We have been to Alcatraz and it is very interesting. Spectacular views and fascinating history. Haven’t done a night tour but it sounds fun.

Your site, Just Wine Country, is very nice. We love the Wine Country.
