Warning: This article contains IMPORTANT spoilers from Black Adam.Dwayne Johnson confirms it was his idea to make the surprise Black Adam cameo and explains how it came about. After more than a decade of being linked as Black Adam for Warner Bros., Johnson has finally joined the DCEU as his solo film debuts in theaters around the world this week. While Johnson would initially appear in the Shazam! movieThe Hollywood megastar convinced the studio to let the two DC icons have their own solo films and unite for a showdown in a future story.
Black Adam explores the tragic origin story of Teth-Adam and shows how a Kahndaq slave gains divine powers and awakens in modern times after 5,000 years of captivity. For years, Johnson continued to tease and maintain his promise that Black Adam’s live-action debut will forever change the hierarchy of power in the DC universe, including chasing the Justice League. While Black Adam puts Johnson’s character in a big way, it also establishes itself in the greater DCEU, including its massive post-credits scene, with the Return of Henry Cavill’s Superman.
Even though the Black Adam post-credits scene was leaked online early on, the re-emergence of Cavill’s Superman has already built up massive hype and excitement for the future of the DCEU. Following reports that he had to go over former DC Films head Walter Hamada to get Cavill’s Superman in Black AdamJohnson talks about the cameo in a new interview with Comic. Johnson confirms that he does indeed go directly to Warner Bros. bosses. Pictures went on to green the cameo idea, sharing the following:
“Well, I’ve known Henry for a long time. We’re buddies. My longtime business partner, Dany Garcia, has been a great advocate for Henry. She’s run Henry’s career over the years. The bottom line, dude, we love Superman New leadership is about to happen in Warner Brothers. This is an opportunity. At the end of Black Adam, we will do everything we can to pay tribute and respect to the mythology of Black Adam and build him up as the most powerful and unstoppable force on this planet. And if we do our job right, at the end of the movie, then not only will the most powerful and unstoppable force in the entire universe come into Superman, but also the one that the fans want. And that’s it. difference. And that’s the new era I’m talking about. This new era in the DC universe is we’re listening, man. We’re listening to the fans. We may not be able to do everything they want, but they’ll know that they are not ignored because they have been loved for so long be honored. oh listen to them, man. So by presenting that to Henry, he also… Man, when it comes to Superman, I don’t know if there is anyone else on the planet who loves and embodies the mythology, ethos and everything of Superman than Henry. And so I’m so glad it all came together. I’m so glad the fans are losing their minds about it. And I’m so happy that there’s a new shift in this DC universe. And Superman is back.”
What’s next for Henry Cavill’s Superman in the DCEU
While Cavill’s Superman and Johnson’s Black Adam had a brief but pivotal interaction at the end of the film, the bigger question that remains is what’s next for Krypton’s last son. Just before Black Adam opened in theaters, new reports emerged of what Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly considering working with the DCEU as they continue with the franchise. A project that is at an early stage of development is Man of Steel 2, with the idea of having Cavill’s Superman back on the big screen in his own franchise. The studio is reportedly looking for a screenwriter. Johnson has also promised that there will also be a Black Adam vs. Superman combat is in the cards, which is seen as a long-winded DCEU story.
Although Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Films are silent on the future of Cavill’s Superman, Black Adam clearly stated that they won’t be releasing the actor version of the character anytime soon. Somehow it shouldn’t come as a shock that a showdown between Black Adam and Superman seems inevitable at this point. For years, it was unclear whether Warner Bros. and Cavill were done with each other, but with the previous regime and DC Films’ Hamada out of the way, it does suggest that his Superman could be a protagonist in the DCEU again. As Black Adam opens globally, it will be interesting to see how the wider public reacts to Cavill’s Superman’s return to the DCEU and what will happen next for the character.
