Karthi is flying high with the success of his latest film Ponniyin Selvan. He is back with a new action drama called Sardaar, which hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Vijay (Karthi) is a sincere agent who always tries his best and his department is also very happy with his efforts. He loves lawyer Shalini (Raashi Khanna) and is looking for bigger goals in life. This is also the time when a large scale project called One Line One Pipe is being planned in the country. A few RAW agents want this project to be shut down at all costs. Having no choice, they bring Sardaar into action to deal with this situation. Who is this Sardar? What is the connection between Vijay and Sardaar? What is this whole project about? To know the answers, you have to watch the movie on the big screen.

Karthi gets better with every movie. He plays a double role in this film and is a top performer in it. The difference he shows in two characters was super cool. He will be seen in different outfits in this movie and the body language he uses for each of them is amazing. Karthi is one of the main assets and shows himself in a new avatar in this film.

Raashi Khann gets a good part and she gives Karthi ample support and looks good on screen. The old-time actress Laila was featured in a key role and it was so good to see her after a long hiatus. Chunkey Pandey played an important character and he does quite well in every movie and was deadly in Sardaar.

The other heroine, Rajisha also did a good job in her role. The fight scenes are slick and spark interest from the audience. The way the tension is presented in a stylish way betrays how good the technical values of the film are.

The stakes are quite high in the second half and there was room for more drama and suspense but the director Mithran doesn’t make good use of that and shows some scenes in a very predictable way. A clearer narration would have made things even better.

The climax is good but it’s not as effective as you’d expect after watching the whole movie. A more solid bang at the end would have been pretty good. The movie starts off slow and the running time should have been adjusted slightly to make things clearer.

Technical aspects:

As mentioned before, Sardaar is high on technical aspects. GV Prakash scores the music for this film. His music is average but the composed background music is just great. Goerge Williams’ camera work is stunning and shows the film in a solid way. The Telugu dubbing is also very good.

As for director Mithran, he did a good job with the film. He has written an action packed story and told in a good way. If he had made the film clear, the output would have been a lot better. He has shown Karthi in a solid way and his fans will love him in a new role.

Overall, Sardaar is an emotional spy drama that is stylish and action packed. The movie is a bit long and has a few issues in the second half. But Karthi’s solid performance, strong content with good suspense erases all problems and makes this movie a good viewing piece this holiday season. Go for it. Rating: 3.25/5
